discover the joy of discipline

Every year, Wallpaper magazine pays tribute to craftsmanship and creativity during its Handmade exhibition at the Salon del Mobile in Milan.

An annual event during which the British institution combines brands/designers and know-how around exceptional pieces created especially for the occasion. Each pair then strives to step out of their usual comfort zone to propose creations in line with the - ever growing - expectations of design week regulars.

It is around the theme “Wellness+Wonder*” that LE GRAMME took part in the exercise for this 2018 season. Faithful to its passion for the material and its sense of ritual, LE GRAMME has designed a unique piece in line with this theme of “*Well-being+Wonderful”: a healing set called “Discover the Joy of Discipline”.

If the brand masters its know-how when it comes to precious metals, it set itself the challenge of imagining a functional object in the most fragile material there is: crystal. Often dedicated to the consumption of spirits, the crystal here allows us to make something equally precious: the attention we give to ourselves.

It is therefore accompanied by a reference in the field, the Viennese crystal maker LOBMEYR, that LE GRAMME worked on 5 cylindrical containers. Each format has its function and its height, in an invariable diameter for an always absolute form, declined and named by its weight:
- A vitamin maker. The 35g.
- A ramekin of dried fruits. The 41g.
- A water glass. The 99g. Engraved with the mantra “Discover the Joy of Discipline”.
- A fruit juice tumbler. The 161g.
- A water pitcher. The 209g.

Each piece is characterized by its pyramid guilloche base line. Unified across the height of the vitamin maker, the pyramid guilloché pattern draws a horizon common to the five objects. The first print explored by LE GRAMME, the pyramid guilloche was also worked on by Lobmeyr for the edition of a set with A.Loos.

Echoing its bracelets, rings and key rings, a silver cover (the 99g) made in the French workshops of LE GRAMME, punctuates the variation of cylinders.

The healing set was imagined as a real ritual space, the crystal cylinders are therefore embedded flush with a 90x55 cm lava stone tray, forming a light/dark mineral association. The lava stone known for its natural heat resonates the clarity and finesse of each piece of the composition, it invites a moment of focus or contemplation on what some will alternately imagine to be a desk pad or a meditation space.

LE GRAMME therefore offers here a morning ritual, so everyone will define the order, the ingredients and the context by placing the set in front of a photograph, a landscape, a window. Like every worn or functional object on le gramme, this new creation can be personalized with a phrase or mantra.

Each element of the set is the result of a challenge pushing the limits of demanding and fragile materials and the uncompromising aesthetic demands of LE GRAMME & LOBMEYR.
Happiness and minimalism seem to have the same origin here: discipline.
